TRAVEL BY CAR
From the London area
From Gatwick Airport
Exit airport and take M23 towards London
Take M25 towards Heathrow Airport at next junction
Take M4 West at M25/M4 junction close to Heathrow

From Heathrow Airport
Exit Airport and take M4 West towards South Wales
From The South Coast
Take the M3 north to Winchester and turn off onto the
A34 for the Midlands.
Follow the A34 to the M4 just north of Newbury.

Follow M4 West towards South Wales
Keep on M4 South Wales at M4/M5 junction at Bristol
After M4/M5 junction, M4 drops down a hill towards
the two Severn Bridges,
Take M48 towards Chepstow at bottom of hill. ie turn
off left
(Get this right, if you remain on
the M4 you will be carried 8 miles past the
Chepstow turn off, you will go over the new
bridge and you will then need to come off
the M4 at the Magor turn off, return along
the M4 towards London, turn off quickly at
the M48 junction for Chepstow, and return
to the A466 junction close to the old bridge)
Cross Severn Bridge, toll is a large cash-only sum (increases annually) for west
bound traffic (return is free)
After crossing bridge (2 miles) turn off left
and take A466 towards Chepstow
After 1 mile, at Highbeech roundabout (named on
sign) follow A466 towards Monmouth
Arrive Tintern after 5 miles
From the North
Find the M5 going south from Birmingham
At the M50 junction, take the M50 to Ross
At Ross, at the end of the M50, take the A40 to Monmouth
As you arrive at Monmouth, do not enter Monmouth from the roundabout, but keep along the A40 until you arrive at the traffic lights. Monmouth town is on your right at this point.
Turn left at the traffic lights onto the A466 to Tintern and Chepstow.
Immediately cross the River Wye and then curve right staying on the A466 until you arrive at the north end of Tintern village (ten miles from the A40 turn-off).
TRAVEL BY TRAIN
The nearest railway station is at Chepstow, six miles from Tintern. Taxis are available at Chepstow for onward travel to Tintern, buses are also available but are about 400 yards away, through an underpass, next to Somerfield's in the middle of the town.
'Alphaline Trains' calling at Chepstow are on the Cardiff to Gloucester line, connections can be made at Cardiff, Gloucester and Newport stations.

TRAVEL BY COACH
Coaches call at Chepstow, stopping at the bus station area adjacent to Somerfield's in the centre of town. There are a number of direct connections from Heathrow and Gatwick to Chepstow.

TRAVEL BY BUS
Local bus timetables are no longer accessible via the net.
The main route ( Chepstow - Monmouth, no 69 ) straddles Gloucestershire and
Monmouthshire and is subsidised 7 days a week by these authorities as no one is prepared to operate it
commercially. However in general terms, buses run between Chepstow and Monmouth and return about two hourly.
